Is WWE 2K19 A Good Wrestling Game?

Is WWE 2K19 A Good Wrestling Game?

Another year has went by which means another WWE video game has released. This year we saw 2K release WWE 2k19 on October 5th which means it has been out for a whole month. I have spent some time with every feature and mode and i have quite a bit to say about it.

Did 2K improve this game from WWE 2K18? In some aspects they did but before we get into the really good things we have to address the bad things that comes with every release of a WWE game.

The Cons

I have been playing wresting video games all of my life and ive played some bad ones (Wrestlemania 2000, TNA Impact, Both RAW games, etc) Ever since 2k purchased the rights to make the WWE games it appears we always have the same issues. Every year the game lacks content, you might get a good 2 month which is honestly me stretching it for what its worth and after those 2 months you have done everything and it becomes a boring game. I played WWE 2K19 this past week and after i played the showcase and Career mode the game felt naked. The career after career mode was bland and they shouldnt of added that as the career mode was very good.

The universe mode continues to be the most disappointing mode in ever WWE 2k game since it debuted in the series. The creation might be better but it still lacks in alot of content. Lets not even talk about the thinned out roster which be much bigger than it actually is. The commentary is dreadful, so dreadful that i turn the volume down so i dont need to hear it anymore. But honestly the worst thing to me this year is the online mode and all of the bug issues, for a fighting type game with a competitive online fan base to have that many bug issues going into the second month of the game is just disheartening.

The Pros

Now that i have destroyed 2K for the mistakes they make every year i do want to take a moment and talk about the good parts of the game. WWE games have been dry for the last 5 years but this year i will admit they did add some stuff that made me want to actually play it. They gave 2 good story concepts My Career Mode and the Daniel Bryan Showcase and both were the best parts of WWE 2K19.

Lets break it down to the simplest form, Wrestling fans love storytelling so the wrestling games need to have good story elements. First we need to talk about the Daniel Bryan showcase which told the beauitful story of one of the biggest underdogs in pro wrestling. Telling his story from 2003 to his red debut in 2010 to his famous WWE title win at Wrestlemania 30 to his retirement to where he is now. They put his best matches in this showcase and hearing him talk about each moment gave me goosebumps as a long time wrestling fan.

Now lets get into the My Career mode i have went on record for years saying that it was the worst mode in the game. For years it had no real story, no immersion and was just a bad take on a sandbox mode. but this year i will applaud 2K as they did an amazing job writing a original and immersive story. Was it perfect? Not at all but it is a step in the right direction, It was unique and odd but it was for wresting fans and it worked so well.

The Conclusion

WWE 2K19 is the first wrestling game that 2k has released that i can honestly tell you is a good made for wrestling fans. The story concept of the game is the best in any Wrestling Games in a very long time and just playing both story modes will take your whole weekend away and you will have a great time being immersed in the wacky world of WWE. Now is it a good wrestling game? Yes it is a very good wrestling game but, it is not a good Triple A video game. They still have many things to improve on but WWE 2K19 proved that they are slowly  improving everything and i will be excited to see what they can do when we hit the next console generation.
